I Don't Like Surprises  -  view/add comments

In general, I don't like surprises. I don't like to wait until Christmas morning to open my presents, I don't like the impeding feeling that on my birthday someone is going to lead me into a dark room only to have a bunch of people waiting to yell 'SURPRISE!' before my eyes have had a chance to adjust, and I certainly don't like drive bys.

If They Laugh, They'll Call You Back  -  view/add comments

You know, when you have a position to fill for a real talented individual, chances are, the candidate you seek has a job. Chances are, everyone else is also looking for him as well. What does this mean? It means that the candidate probably gets multiple calls a day from recruiters. Big Problem? Or big Opportunity?

T minus 37  -  view/add comments

On May 2nd, my 12 month contract with Jobster expires and my involvement with Recruiting.com ends. I am excited about the upcoming change. I feel kind of weird that Recruiting.com will not be part of my day to day activities but I can handle it. My decision to move on is entirely personal. There are many opportunities and challenges out there and I want in.

Be Nice To Bossy  -  view/add comments

Brazen Careerist hits a home run. Yesterday, the Brazen Careerist advised readers to be nice to crabby bosses. That didn't go over too well. But, last time I looked she had about 800 comments. Wow! Here's a good one.

"Yeh, this lady is clueless about working with some psycho-ego tripping boss!! Let me give all of you some better advice. If you have a boss and their job has gone to their heads and thrives on making everyone else miserable, fight back!

An Honest Commentary  -  view/add comments

I usually talk about the good companies out there, the employers that value their employees, the ones that actually care. Not today. To every yin there is a yang. To every light there is a dark. As I am feeling slightly dark today, let’s explore the road less traveled.

Changing an interview a million times used to drive me cra-cra-cra-crazy! Now that I see it from the inside looking out....not so much. Hmmm, weird.

Is "Managing Out" a form of assault?  -  view/add comments

One expert, who did not wish to be named for the story, says: "If this is done correctly your 'problem employee' will find a job and quit before you take action."

Some people claim that companies "front load" the employee with unreasonable work and unfair "targets" that cannot be achieved so the employee can only fail.

Going to great lengths  -  view/add comments

The Recruiting Animal and I were trading stories this week of the lengths some candidates will go to, just to get their resume seen by a company. So, to start a new series on Recruiting.com, I thought I'd post a few of the more memorable candidate stunts I have had pulled on me.
