In one month, RecruitingBlogs.com has exploded with triple its membership to over 3,000 members and thousands of page views a day in traffic. His friend’s contributed, Jason’s personality had a definite role in the growth, but if you ask those who had a closer look, Jason would agree that in all sincerity, it was the community itself and the viral power that drove the daily traffic. Invited colleagues invited fellow recruiters, Staffing VP’s invited their staffing organizations. Something happened. The site has taken a life of its own.

(February 04, 2008) The series so far:
In my lifetime, the American population has doubled twice. In my children's lifetime, it has doubled once. In their children's life, it will start declining.
The older of us are used to tremendous growth rates in population, economics, business development and real estate prices. It was a 75 year bubble that will change in just the same way that other economic factors are changing.

Open Question to sourcers & recruiters: What happens to our industry once we have “full market” involvement with Social Networks?
As any economist knows 100% employment (meaning 0% unemployment) is neither possible nor good for the market, and they (you know those experts) typically believe that something in the range of 3-5% unemployment (known as full employment) is pretty much a best case scenario for the market. With this in mind I’ve been thinking lately that as we continue to move further into this Social Networking experiment what happens to sourcing and recruiting professionals as more and more of the people who currently are “hard to find” put their private information into the public domain?

Quote for the Day: Friday, November 30th, 2007
"My opinion is that lying is never a "best practice". And that even the most *strategic* of recruiting initiatives that produces results can harm an employment brand beyond repair. In my opinion, honest and aggressive are not mutually exclusive."
Heather Hamilton, Job Seekers Beware!

(November 29, 2007) Sometimes, the noise generated by the recruitosphere evokes an empty feeling. Stalkers who make big names for themselves, thought leaders with no thoughts, strong opinion that amounts to nothing. It's sad to understand that user generated content means a lot of bad manners and thoughlessness.
Recently, I read a diatribe on leadership. The idea was that Gen Y people do not evidence traditional leadership skills because they are so good at collaboration. The heartfelt argument was that boldness was missing from the equation; that collaboration produced committi-fied results; that without big picture leadership, mediocrity was sure to follow. I half expected the Animal to jump out of the bushes screaming "See, I told you."

Recruiting by Numbers: Thursday, November 15th, 2007
- They don't recruit.
- They rely too much on ads.
- They know too much about HR and too little about their industry.
- They spend too much time sorting resumes.
- They let managers get away with murder.
- They waste candidates' time.
- They let the Internet waste their time.

Technology. Organizational restructuring. Changing workforce demographics. Globalization. The degree to which external forces such as these are reshaping the North American workplace is breathtaking. And HR leaders, who are particularly attuned to, and entrusted with, their organizations' talent, are especially aware of the impact.
