Can't Think Of Good Title For this Post

It's great when John Sumser mentions Recruiting.com in his daily writings. He also lists 96 other blogs that he finds most interesting.

John's post is about the Link Swap that Jim Durbin proposed on Recruiting.com .  It got some good discussion going and I think that is always a good thing.Through all of this, the most interesting thought that was put into my mind was a comment left by someone named curious george.

I have an interesting proposition to settle this discussion betweenyou (jim Durbin) and Heather. Why not have Heather try creating a totally new blogwith no reference to who she is or Microsoft (a pseudonym) while youcreate one from scratch (a pseudonym as well) solely based of linkswapping while Heather bases hers off 'quality' content and see whogets more traffic and readership after 30 days

Any bets on this one ;-)

I have made some inquiries and the overwhelming feeling is that without a doubt, the blog depending solely on link swapping would win. It would be a great experiment but I am quite confident that this particular experiment with the players suggested will not take place.

Last night I was talking to Joel Cheesman ( he is in Toronto ) about this and he let me know that this is not the first time link swapping has been thought of or tried and that the search engines are not crazy about people doing this sort of thing.

So how about this and it comes from john's lead today:

instead of everyone agreeing on the timing of the linkswap and who partakes etc, how about we all just put out a post in the next week or so listing all of the blogs we read and enjoy. Who even cares if they are all recruiting related. This way, there is no "fixin" of any kind.

I need to run out to the airport to pick someone up so I will put out my list of favorite blogs later today.

I will even add this in, whatever blog gets the most mentions in the next two weeks, I will throw in a $500 voucher for something. You just let me know what you want when I call to tell you you won. So please, when you put your post out, send me a link so I can accurately count.

There's a lot of far out blogs out there(very biased, sexy, vulgar) so I don't know if you'll get a totally honest answer on everyone's favourites. Am I speaking for myself? Of course, not.

Well...if you can't get one of the participants to play, find another that will :-).

I for one just for pure scientific reasons alone (like a Darwinian experiment around survival of the fittest) would love to measure and see the results!

Jason:

I have to admit I'm not a fan of any link swapping. While it might help out with blogs trying to get off the ground, if you don't post quality material, your pages just won't get the necessary hits. Fact is that there are many sites that still link to my old URL - and I've never asked them to change the links. (except for Gautam - used to get lots of links from him)

It's possible I've gone too far on systematicHR. The links are removed to a page and only people who care what I read will get over to the sites I link to. I think that's important, but it also means that if you get a click through from systematicHR, they are probably a bit more interested in reading your content.

I admit I'm pretty well linked up through other sites - something I'll admit I'm happy about. But I recently started an e-mail subscription to the site, and I actually get more people signing up for e-mail updates on a daily basis than I get clicks from the 50 or so sites that link to me. What's the story? I'm proud of my content and I work hard at being informative. SEO is nice, but getting there artificially isn't important to me.
