The Rise of the Researchers II

ResearcherBy Anthony J.

Some time ago I did a posting about how contract researchers are becoming an altnernative to contingency or retained search in the UK.

Now it seems that they might be making inroads with corporate clients on this side of the pond.

Once upon a time any article about recruiting would mention contingency and retainer as your two third party options. Now this piece by Les Gore out of Newton MA clearly mentions contract research/recruiters as a viable option for companies:

Contract recruiters For about $75-$100 an hour or more, contract recruiters will assist you in running an inhouse recruitingoperation. They might come in one day a week and work with your staffin defining position specs and organizing the process. A typicalengagement might include an immediate need for a large of number ofpeople.

ResearchersFor about $75-$100 an hour or more, a researcher will identifypotential candidates at other companies and may do reference andbackground checks.

I believe this will become an important trend to watch in the recruiting industry.

Absolutely right on here.

When I was a search consultant I worked for a firm which had strong relationships with external research teams. We were too 'boutique' to justify the huge investment needed to set up multi-lingual research inhouse so we worked with a few firms of specialists for all projects. It's probably about USD 10k per assignment & of course based on time / expenses rather than success.

Now I'm in the corporate world I know the value of a good team of researchers & will use them directly. There are a bunch of uses not just getting the people but also competitor analysis, background checking, employer reputation surveys etc.

I think it's a natural step and should fit into the mix.
