Gerry Crispin gives us a good name

Gerry Crisipin is on a tour of the Katrina-ravaged Gulf Coast right now.

Today he is in Shreveport, which I visited often as a child.  There is incredible news, as many, many people have been hired through the hard-work and organization of jobs fairs by Goodwill.

I hate job fairs.  Or, I hated them.  Reading this post, I'm thinking it's time to revise my bias.

"900 people showed on September 6. More than 240 have been placed since- maybe more, know one knows for sure. (Goodwill placed fewer than 400 people in total in 2004). The interesting feature of the job fair was the greeters who personally met each of the 900 folks as they came in and then helped them answer questions like "address" since their current one wasn’t all that permanent. Surprisingly, the greeters found that most of the attendees had their resumes, had made copies and had already switched their cell phones. Positions offerred were nearly all full time not P/T  and ranged from entry level to... a lawyer- hired by a local firm.

Another Career Fair is planned for the 1st or 2nd week in October."

Goodwill just went on my donor list.
