New Recruiting Blog - On Talent

OntalentLast week I was surfing around and found a new recruitingblog that had linked to Recruiting.com I had never seen the blog before and there was no real contact info onit at the time. As usual, I sent anemail through the comment section thanking them for putting a Recruiting.comlink on their site.

The next day, I got a reply from the blog writer who turnedout to be Doug Miller who is the VP of Marketing at Hire.com. The name of theirnew blog is On Talent.

At the time, they were not ready to have the blog officiallylaunched but today they are. I have had a couple of email conversations in thelast few days with Doug about why he started a blog and what he hopes will beaccomplished by doing so.

Doug says that he decided to start a blog as a “wake up”call to corporate staffing organizations. He says that it has become very clearthat over the last several years of talent supply glut and corporate staffingrifs, corporate recruiters have forgotten the basics of recruiting – thebuilding of relationships and the total candidate experience.

As VP of Marketing for Hire.com, Doug is constantlyinteracting with customers and prospects and he says that most corporaterecruiters out there are obsessing over process automation and recruiterefficiency. He says they are missing the point; it should be more aboutrecruiter effectiveness.

It’s Doug’s hope that by creating the On Talent blog, atleast some of the recruiter communities will begin to think differently and actout of the box with respect to Proactive personalized, Relationships, Qualityof hire and Hiring manager satisfaction. Doug feels we are entering into aperiod where we will see talent shortages and talent wars again and companieswill need this kind of thinking.

Doug makes is clear that the On Talent recruiting Blog represents his own points of view. While it is consistent with the Hire.com philosophy, he is not using the blog to market products; he is using the blog to evangelize a cause. He calls this cause Talenteering - putting strategic thinking and talent back in the recruiter's vocabulary and activities.

Good Luck with the new blog Doug and I hope some minds get changed. It would really help us all.
