Podcast Your Jobs - CM Style

Chris Russell who is no stranger to the recruiting blogosphere has been busy lately. While the blogosphere was busy debating whether or not it has any influence in the industry or not, Chris started a new business. It’s called Jobs in Pods.

Essentially, it is a service that allows hiring managers to record an audio interview about either the company or a particular position they are anxious to fill. It’s a good idea because for the most part, job postings are not all that exciting. The idea here is to add some life to it.

Once the interview is complete, Chris will submit it to a number of places potential job seekers can listen to it. You can also have it widgetized and place it on your website. And speaking of websites, Chris has a done a great job in setting up his and everything you need to know about Jobs in Pods is there.

My opinion after reviewing the entire site and a few emails back and forth with Chris is that the interviews I have listened to are way to long. 10 minute plus audio interviews for the most part will prevent moderately interested job seekers from listening to the whole thing. This does not mean I think this is a bad idea. I think it is a great idea but these interviews need to be 3 minutes tops.

Congrats Chris, I hope this works out great. I think the idea is a good one but I would change the name of it since you will have to spend too much time explaining to people what it means. Just my opinion. I also don't think it will be difficult to show that this is something that has value so I think the sell will not be difficult .

I never claimed to be the first but I would point out that your casts are simply your own person talking about the jobs on your site. True jobcasts are those that have the actual employer talking about their jobs and company which is what Jobs in Pods is all about.

Microsoft was the first company to employ jobcasts in their recruiting efforts.

Thanks for the comments Jason. Yes, I am truly master of my domains!

lol

Anyway as far as the time of each podcast. I envision the first one a company does to be longer. Kind of an introduction. Then later podcasts can focus on one particular job where we talk for 5-10 mins.

Don't forget the intended audience is the passive candidate and if the job in question sounds interesting, they will listen. Whether its 3, 5, or 10 mins is debatable.

Over the next few days I'll be blogging more about it on the Recruiting Fly blog. Tomorrow: how it works.
