Going to great lengths

"The Recruiting Animal and I were trading stories this week of the lengths some candidates will go to, just to get their resume seen by a company. So, to start a new series on Recruiting.com, I thought I'd post a few of the more memorable candidate stunts I have had pulled on me."

First there was the candidate that after an interview, he sent a wooden rolling-pin that was engraved with "I'm ready to get rolling with your company!" on it. The poor guy must have spent hours with a soldering iron writing that on the damn thing.

Next, there was the candidate that sent their resume to me in in a blue Tiffany box. Of course they knew that I'd just HAVE to open it and I did, but to my dismay, found a resume instead of some bling.

But my personal favorite was a candidate offering to dress up as Spiderman if we'd give him an interview. His resume was terrible, but out of sick curiosity, I gave him one. He was true to his word Spiderman showed up for the interview, mask and all. During the interview, which was painful to say the least, he handed me a can of corn with half and half glued to it. I must have looked confused because he immediately said, "Well, your posting said that you were looking for the cream of the crop so I thought I'd bring it to you." He was probably the strangest individual I have ever interviewed, I'd have to give him an A for effort, or for weirdness rather.

There are countless others, but we'll save those for another day. I am sure every recruiter out there has stories like these, so let's hear them!
